S&P 500 Falling Below 4,000 but Still Up for Quarter

Aug 31, Stocks are mixed early Wednesday after major indexes suffer three consecutive days of losses driven by Fed dialogue over rate policy. Weaker-than-expected private payrolls data and a slide in oil prices help offset worries about inflation.

All three indexes are on track to finish the month about 3% lower, though they’re still up for the Quarter.
