IC-VMSI™ Institutional Ticker Ratings
Periodic Candidate Review
VICA Research periodically applies IC-VMSI™ to companies exhibiting unusually strong preliminary evidence of institutional capital force.
Candidates are identified through observable evidence including institutional ownership and allocation, strategic capital, benchmark-linked exposure, portfolio positioning and other measurable capital structures.
Selection for review is not an endorsement and does not predetermine the final score. Each candidate is subjected to a deeper institutional-capital examination designed to confirm or reject the preliminary signal, identify contradictory evidence, distinguish measured evidence from inference and establish the conditions under which the assessment would have to change.
A candidate may strengthen under examination, weaken materially or fail the test entirely.
The objective is not to find companies with compelling narratives. It is to identify where institutional capital has become measurably embedded—and test whether that structure is real.
Capital Is Deeply Embedded. Q3 Must Confirm Persistence.

Abstract
Linde entered the IC-VMSI™ Candidate Review with unusually deep institutional ownership and broad evidence of institutional participation.
The deeper review confirms a structure combining high institutional ownership, positive manager breadth, meaningful active-manager accumulation, substantial benchmark-linked capital and issuer-driven share absorption. The principal limitation is not material bearish positioning, but incomplete evidence that active accumulation persisted through the third quarter.
IC-VMSI™ scores LIN at 84.6/100. Institutional capital is deeply embedded; Q3 reporting must now establish whether active accumulation persisted.
Institutional Assessment
Linde exhibits a mature institutional capital structure supported by both ownership depth and participation breadth.
Aggregated June 30 Form 13F data indicate institutional ownership of approximately 86.13% of outstanding shares, compared with approximately 82.00% in the prior quarter. Approximately 1,213 institutions increased positions versus 765 reducing them.
The ownership percentage is not the highest-information observation.
The stronger signal is that multiple independent institutional balance sheets were increasing exposure simultaneously.
Several large managers also increased positions materially, including T. Rowe Price, Capital Research Global Investors and State Street. Other large managers reduced exposure, establishing an important boundary around the conclusion: accumulation was broad, not unanimous.
Linde simultaneously repurchased approximately 1.73 million shares during the second quarter, deploying about $873 million. Issuer repurchases are not institutional sponsorship, but they alter the transmission mechanism by reducing available equity while institutional ownership remains elevated.
The relevant relationship is therefore:
**Broad institutional ownership
- positive active-manager breadth
- contracting equity supply**
Structural Conclusion: Institutional capital is deeply embedded, with institutional claims operating against a progressively tighter available equity base.
Benchmark-Linked Capital
Linde’s capital structure extends beyond discretionary security selection.
Its inclusion in the Nasdaq-100, S&P 500 and major materials benchmarks connects part of the ownership base to rules-based allocation, index replication and institutional implementation.
IC-VMSI™ does not classify that capital as active conviction.
It classifies it as capital infrastructure.
Benchmark-linked exposure creates a recurring transmission channel through which fund flows, index replication and portfolio implementation can generate demand independent of individual security-selection decisions.
Structural Conclusion: LIN combines discretionary institutional ownership with a mature rules-based capital channel.
Principal Contradiction
The principal contradiction is dispersion within active institutional behavior.
June-quarter ownership breadth was strongly positive, but several significant managers reduced positions while others added materially.
That prevents the evidence from being interpreted as universal institutional conviction.
More importantly, complete September-quarter Form 13F reporting is not yet available.
The current evidence establishes deep institutional embedding.
It does not yet establish continued active accumulation through Q3.
Arbitrage Decomposition Factor™ — ADF™
UNAVAILABLE
Reported short positioning is modest relative to Linde’s equity base and is not a score-determining contradiction.
The available evidence does not establish whether that positioning is directional, hedging-related or otherwise structural.
IC-VMSI™ therefore makes no assumption.
Gross positioning is observable. Capital intent requires decomposition.
Why the Score Is 84.6
The 84.6 score reflects the convergence of four independently observable forces:
Deep institutional ownership.
Positive active-manager breadth.
Mature benchmark-linked capital.
Issuer-driven equity absorption.
The score is constrained by equally identifiable limitations.
Active accumulation is not unanimous. Complete Q3 institutional reporting remains unavailable. Institutional ownership totals vary modestly across aggregation methodologies. No independently validated strategic-equity capital layer has been established.
The result is therefore strong, but not complete.
Signal Integrity
| Evidence | Status | IC-VMSI™ Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Institutional ownership depth | Confirmed | Capital deeply embedded |
| Q2 manager breadth | Confirmed | Broad positive institutional participation |

| Benchmark-linked capital | Confirmed | Persistent rules-based capital infrastructure |
| Corporate share repurchases | Confirmed | Available equity supply being absorbed |
| Significant manager reductions | Confirmed | Accumulation broad, not unanimous |
| Q3 active-manager persistence | Unavailable | Complete reporting has not matured |
| Gross short positioning | Confirmed | Limited counter-positioning |
| Directional meaning of shorts | Unavailable | Insufficient decomposition evidence |
| Strategic-capital layer | Unavailable | No validated independent strategic-equity layer |
What Price Alone Did Not Reveal
LIN’s price performance is not the basis of the 84.6 IC-VMSI™ score.
The higher-information structure sits beneath price:
Institutional ownership is unusually deep.
Active-manager breadth was positive.
Benchmark-linked capital is structurally embedded.
The issuer is simultaneously reducing available equity supply.
The important relationship is therefore not simply institutional ownership.
It is institutional demand operating against a contracting equity base.
Price can reflect that structure.
Price cannot establish it.
Price measures movement. IC-VMSI™ measures capital force.
The Unresolved Test
The unresolved question is no longer whether institutional capital is embedded in Linde.
It is whether active institutional sponsorship persisted through the September quarter.
IC-VMSI™ will not infer that persistence from price appreciation, momentum, volume or technical strength.
If multiple independent active managers maintain or increase exposure while benchmark-linked capital remains intact, the evidence of institutional persistence strengthens.
If broad active-manager distribution emerges instead, the state must weaken.
Falsification Condition
The Strong Positive Capital Force state requires reassessment if Q3 filings establish:
**negative institutional breadth
- meaningful distribution across multiple large active managers
- deterioration in overall institutional ownership**
One manager reducing exposure is insufficient.
The state changes only if the evidence converges.
Final Institutional Assessment
IC-VMSI™ — LIN
84.6 / 100
Institutional State: Strong Positive Capital Force
Linde’s institutional structure is defined by convergence rather than any single ownership statistic:
Deep institutional ownership
+ Positive active-manager breadth
+ Benchmark-linked capital
+ Issuer-driven equity absorption
The principal uncertainty is equally specific.
June-quarter evidence establishes deep institutional embedding. September-quarter reporting must determine whether active accumulation persisted.
Institutional capital is deeply embedded in Linde. The unresolved test is whether active accumulation persists alongside an already powerful benchmark-linked capital base.
About IC-VMSI™
IC-VMSI™ is VICA Research’s institutional capital-force framework.
It measures observable institutional deployment through ownership, allocation, portfolio positioning and benchmark-linked investment behavior.
Price appreciation, momentum, trading volume and price-driven changes in assets under management do not independently establish institutional capital deployment.
The Arbitrage Decomposition Factor™ (ADF™) evaluates whether observable positioning may contain non-directional components associated with convertible arbitrage, derivatives hedging, market making, benchmark implementation or other structural mechanisms.
Underlying model construction and weighting remain proprietary to VICA Research.
