IC-VMSI™ Institutional Ticker Ratings

Periodic Candidate Review

VICA Research periodically applies IC-VMSI™ to companies exhibiting unusually strong preliminary evidence of institutional capital force.

Candidates are identified through observable evidence including institutional ownership and allocation, strategic capital, benchmark-linked exposure, portfolio positioning and other measurable capital structures.

Selection for review is not an endorsement and does not predetermine the final score. Each candidate is subjected to a deeper institutional-capital examination designed to confirm or reject the preliminary signal, identify contradictory evidence, distinguish measured evidence from inference and establish the conditions under which the assessment would have to change.

A candidate may strengthen under examination, weaken materially or fail the test entirely.

The objective is not to find companies with compelling narratives. It is to identify where institutional capital has become measurably embedded—and test whether that structure is real.

Capital Is Embedded. Sponsorship Must Persist After Repricing.

Abstract

Micron entered the IC-VMSI™ Candidate Review with unusually strong evidence of institutional accumulation, benchmark-linked capital and strategic customer commitments.

The deeper review confirms broad Q2 institutional accumulation operating alongside major index exposure and a separate contracted-capital mechanism created by Micron’s multi-year Strategic Customer Agreements. Fiscal 2026 disclosures subsequently confirmed that those commitments had converted into substantial customer deposits. The principal contradiction is significant distribution by several major active managers despite strongly positive aggregate institutional breadth, while complete Q3 ownership reporting remains unavailable.

IC-VMSI™ scores MU at 88.4/100. Institutional capital is deeply embedded; the next test is whether active sponsorship persists after substantial repricing.

Institutional Assessment

Micron exhibits deep institutional ownership supported by unusually strong participation breadth.

Aggregated June 30 Form 13F data indicate institutional ownership of approximately 78.59% of outstanding shares, up approximately 3.65 percentage points quarter over quarter. Reporting institutions held approximately 886.5 million shares, having added roughly 50.6 million net shares during the quarter.

Approximately 2,298 institutions increased positions versus 1,431 reducing them.

The ownership percentage is not the highest-information observation.

The stronger signal is the combination of rising institutional ownership and positive participation breadth across thousands of independent portfolios.

Several major managers increased exposure materially, including Invesco, Norges Bank, JPMorgan and T. Rowe Price.

The accumulation was not universal.

Capital World Investors and FMR were among the significant managers reducing exposure.

That dispersion matters.

IC-VMSI™ does not require uniform institutional behavior.

It requires measurable aggregate capital force while contradictory evidence remains visible.

MU meets that standard.

Structural Conclusion: Institutional capital expanded materially across a broad ownership base despite meaningful distribution by several large active managers.

Strategic Capital

Micron contains a capital mechanism distinct from conventional shareholder ownership.

During fiscal 2026, the company introduced multi-year Strategic Customer Agreements structured around take-or-pay commitments and binding volume arrangements.

Micron disclosed signed agreements covering approximately 20% of DRAM volume and one-third of NAND volume over their contractual terms. Fourteen agreements represented approximately $100 billion of cumulative minimum-price contracted revenue, while signed agreements were expected to provide approximately $22 billion of deposits and related financial commitments, including roughly $18 billion of cash deposits.

These agreements are not institutional equity ownership.

IC-VMSI™ does not classify them as such.

They represent a separate structural mechanism:

customers committing capital and future purchase volumes in advance to secure long-duration access to Micron production.

That distinction became materially more important by fiscal year-end.

Micron reported approximately $12.75 billion of proceeds from customer contract-liability deposits actually received, while noncurrent customer contract liabilities reached approximately $12.9 billion.

The signal therefore moved beyond prospective customer interest.

Capital had been transferred.

A second independent deployment channel is also observable. Micron reported approximately $3.32 billion of government incentives received during fiscal 2026.

Those incentives are not institutional sponsorship and are not counted as ownership.

They independently support manufacturing-capital deployment.

Structural Conclusion: Micron’s capital structure extends beyond shareholder ownership into large realized customer commitments and independently supported manufacturing investment.

Benchmark-Linked Capital

Micron is embedded in multiple major benchmark structures.

The company remains a Nasdaq-100 constituent and was also added to the S&P 100 effective March 23, 2026.

Those positions connect MU to large rules-based allocation, index replication and institutional implementation channels.

IC-VMSI™ does not classify benchmark-linked ownership as discretionary investment conviction.

It classifies it as capital infrastructure.

Index exposure creates a recurring transmission mechanism through which portfolio flows and benchmark implementation can generate ownership demand independently of active security-selection decisions.

Structural Conclusion: MU combines active institutional sponsorship with substantial rules-based capital transmission.

Market Absorption and Equity Supply

Micron also returned capital through its common-stock repurchase program.

During fiscal 2026, the company deployed approximately $650 million toward programmatic share repurchases.

That activity is confirmed.

It is not a dominant driver of the 88.4 score.

At Micron’s equity scale, the repurchase program does not establish the same contracting-equity mechanism observed in companies where issuer absorption materially reshapes available equity supply.

That distinction is important.

The MU score is primarily supported by:

**institutional accumulation

  • benchmark-linked capital
  • strategic customer commitments**

rather than by a shrinking-float thesis.

Structural Conclusion: Issuer absorption is positive but secondary; Micron’s institutional capital force does not depend on share repurchases.

Principal Contradiction

The principal contradiction is material active-manager distribution inside an otherwise strongly positive institutional quarter.

Aggregate institutional ownership increased.

Net institutional shares increased.

Participation breadth was strongly positive.

Yet several significant managers materially reduced exposure.

Capital World Investors reduced its position by approximately 12.6 million shares, while FMR and several other sophisticated managers also lowered exposure.

That prevents IC-VMSI™ from describing the evidence as universal active-manager conviction.

The more precise conclusion is stronger:

institutional capital expanded substantially despite meaningful distribution by several major holders.

Both observations are real.

Neither should be removed to strengthen the narrative.

Arbitrage Decomposition Factor™ — ADF™

UNAVAILABLE

Reported short interest stood at approximately 27.6 million shares on September 15, representing roughly 2.5% of float.

The positioning is observable.

Its intent is not.

The available evidence does not establish a capital-structure mechanism sufficiently strong to classify the position as structural hedging.

It also does not establish that the entire short position represents directional institutional distribution.

IC-VMSI™ therefore makes neither assumption.

ADF™ Classification

UNAVAILABLE

Gross positioning is observable. Capital intent requires decomposition.

Why the Score Is 88.4

The 88.4 score reflects the convergence of several independently observable capital forces:

Deep institutional ownership.

Strong positive institutional breadth.

Large net Q2 institutional accumulation.

Substantial benchmark-linked capital.

Binding multi-year strategic customer commitments.

Customer commitments converted into actual funding.

The score is constrained by equally observable limitations.

Major active managers materially reduced exposure.

Complete September-quarter institutional reporting has not matured.

Issuer-driven share absorption is positive but not structurally dominant.

The economic intent of short positioning remains unavailable.

And customer contractual capital is analytically distinct from institutional equity sponsorship; it strengthens the capital structure but is not double-counted as shareholder accumulation.

The result is exceptionally strong.

It is not complete.

What Price Alone Did Not Reveal

MU’s extraordinary price appreciation is not the basis of the 88.4 IC-VMSI™ score.

The higher-information structure exists beneath price.

Institutions added approximately 50.6 million net shares during the June quarter.

Institutional participation breadth was strongly positive.

Benchmark-linked capital is structurally embedded.

Customers committed capital and future purchase volumes through binding multi-year agreements.

Approximately $12.75 billion of customer contract deposits had actually been received by fiscal year-end.

Those mechanisms do not become more or less real because the stock rises or falls during a trading session.

The important relationship is:

**Institutional accumulation

  • Benchmark-linked capital
  • Contractual customer capital
  • Manufacturing-deployment support**

operating simultaneously.

Price can reflect that structure.

Price cannot establish it.

Price measures movement. IC-VMSI™ measures capital force.

The Unresolved Test

The unresolved question is no longer whether substantial capital became embedded in Micron.

The evidence shows that it did.

The first test is whether active institutional sponsorship persisted through the September quarter after substantial price appreciation.

Complete September-quarter Form 13F reporting has not yet matured.

IC-VMSI™ therefore will not infer continued accumulation from price strength, earnings performance, momentum or trading volume.

If multiple independent institutions maintain or increase exposure after the repricing, evidence of capital persistence strengthens.

If the distribution visible among several major Q2 holders broadens materially across the institutional base, the interpretation must weaken.

A second test concerns the strategic customer structure.

The agreements are contractual, and substantial deposits have already been received.

The remaining question is whether that mechanism continues to produce persistent customer capital and contracted volume through subsequent periods.

Those are separate tests.

Both matter.

Falsification Condition

The Strong Positive Capital Force state requires reassessment if future evidence establishes convergence across:

negative institutional breadth
+ broad distribution across multiple major active managers
+ material deterioration in institutional ownership depth
+ deterioration, cancellation or failure of significant strategic customer commitments

One manager reducing exposure is insufficient.

One earnings disappointment is insufficient.

One price decline is irrelevant by itself.

The state changes only when independent capital channels deteriorate together.

Final Institutional Assessment

IC-VMSI™ — MU

88.4 / 100

Institutional State: Strong Positive Capital Force

Micron’s institutional structure is defined by unusually broad convergence:

Deep institutional ownership
+ Strong positive participation breadth
+ Benchmark-linked capital
+ Multi-year strategic customer commitments
+ Realized customer deposit funding

The principal contradiction remains measurable.

Several major active managers materially reduced positions despite strong aggregate institutional accumulation.

That divergence prevents the evidence from being interpreted as universal conviction and keeps the September-quarter ownership record central to the next validation test.

The customer-capital structure adds another dimension without being misclassified as institutional ownership: substantial contractual commitments have already converted into cash funding, creating a capital-duration mechanism that price alone cannot reveal.

Institutional capital is deeply embedded in Micron, reinforced by benchmark-linked ownership and substantial strategic customer commitments. The unresolved test is whether active sponsorship persists after substantial repricing.

About IC-VMSI™

IC-VMSI™ is VICA Research’s institutional capital-force framework.

It measures observable institutional deployment through ownership, allocation, portfolio positioning and benchmark-linked investment behavior.

Price appreciation, momentum, trading volume and price-driven changes in assets under management do not independently establish institutional capital deployment.

The Arbitrage Decomposition Factor™ (ADF™) evaluates whether observable positioning may contain non-directional components associated with convertible arbitrage, derivatives hedging, market making, benchmark implementation or other structural mechanisms.

Underlying model construction and weighting remain proprietary to VICA Research.
