IC-VMSI™ Institutional Ticker Ratings
Yes. I would update the NBIS publication editorially to the same sharper structure as LIN, while leaving the original 81.7 score, October 2 measurement cutoff, state, confidence, ADF classification, evidence, and conclusions unchanged. Pasted text
Below is the version I would use on the website so the two reports read as one institutional research series.
IC-VMSI™ Institutional Ticker Ratings

Periodic Candidate Review
VICA Research periodically applies IC-VMSI™ to companies exhibiting unusually strong preliminary evidence of institutional capital force.
Candidates are identified through observable evidence including institutional ownership and allocation, strategic capital, benchmark-linked exposure, portfolio positioning and other measurable capital structures.
Selection for review is not an endorsement and does not predetermine the final score. Each candidate is subjected to a deeper institutional-capital examination designed to confirm or reject the preliminary signal, identify contradictory evidence, distinguish measured evidence from inference and establish the conditions under which the assessment would have to change.
A candidate may strengthen under examination, weaken materially or fail the test entirely.
The objective is not to find companies with compelling narratives. It is to identify where institutional capital has become measurably embedded—and test whether that structure is real.
Capital Is Embedded. Persistence Is the Next Test.

IC-VMSI™ Institutional Ticker Rating
Published: October 3, 2026
Measurement Cutoff: October 2, 2026
IC-VMSI™: 81.7 / 100
Institutional State: Strong Positive Capital Force
Confidence: Moderate-High
ADF™ Classification: Conflicted / Arbitrage-Sensitive
Abstract
Nebius entered the IC-VMSI™ Candidate Review after preliminary evidence indicated unusually strong institutional capital force.
The deeper review confirms a structure combining broad institutional accumulation, significant strategic NVIDIA ownership and benchmark-linked capital. The principal contradiction—substantial short interest—remains material, but its directional meaning cannot be interpreted cleanly because Nebius’s convertible-capital structure can generate non-directional hedge activity.
IC-VMSI™ scores NBIS at 81.7/100. Institutional capital is strongly embedded; the next test is whether sponsorship persists after substantial appreciation.
Institutional Assessment
Nebius has moved beyond isolated institutional sponsorship into a structure in which broad institutional ownership, strategic capital and benchmark-linked capital operate simultaneously.
Aggregated June 30 Form 13F data indicate institutional ownership of approximately 66.57% of outstanding shares, an increase of 15.32 percentage points quarter over quarter.
Reporting institutions added approximately 45.62 million net shares, while 698 institutions increased positions versus 274 reducing them. Pasted text
The ownership percentage is not the highest-information observation.
The stronger signal is the breadth of independent institutional balance sheets moving in the same direction.
Structural Conclusion: Institutional capital had become broadly embedded by the end of the second quarter.
Strategic Capital
Nebius’s ownership structure contains a capital layer distinct from conventional asset-management exposure.
NVIDIA reported beneficial ownership of 22,256,412 NBIS shares or share equivalents, representing 9.3% of the class, as of July 13, 2026. The position consisted of 1,190,476 ordinary shares and 21,065,936 shares underlying a pre-funded warrant. Pasted text
IC-VMSI™ does not treat those instruments as economically identical.
What matters is the relationship.
NVIDIA is simultaneously a significant beneficial owner and a central technology participant in the AI infrastructure ecosystem in which Nebius operates.
That establishes a strategic-capital layer independent of ordinary passive or discretionary portfolio ownership.
Structural Conclusion: NBIS institutional sponsorship includes strategic capital in addition to conventional institutional ownership.
Benchmark-Linked Capital
Nebius entered the Nasdaq-100 effective June 22, 2026.
Index inclusion does not establish discretionary investment conviction.
It establishes something different.
Part of the ownership structure becomes connected to rules-based allocation, benchmark replication and institutional implementation.
That creates an additional transmission channel capable of introducing capital inertia independent of active security selection. Pasted text
Structural Conclusion: NBIS is no longer dependent solely on discretionary security selection for institutional capital transmission.
Principal Contradiction
The principal contradiction is substantial short positioning.
Reported short interest stood at approximately 46.78 million shares on September 15, compared with approximately 61.01 million shares on June 30.
The position declined approximately 23% over that period while remaining large in absolute terms. Pasted text
A superficial interpretation would classify those shares as straightforward bearish institutional conviction.
IC-VMSI™ cannot make that assumption.
The relevant question is not merely:
How many shares are short?
It is:
Why are they short?
Arbitrage Decomposition Factor™ — ADF™
CONFLICTED / ARBITRAGE-SENSITIVE
Nebius completed approximately $4.34 billion of convertible-note issuance in March 2026 and another $5.75 billion in August, creating more than $10 billion of new convertible securities during 2026.
That capital structure changes the information content of headline short interest.
Convertible investors can hedge embedded equity exposure through short common-equity positions and derivative transactions. Nebius also disclosed that participating holders could sell Class A shares or enter into or unwind derivative transactions associated with hedge positions on existing convertible securities. Pasted text
This does not establish that NBIS short interest is predominantly arbitrage-related.
It establishes a narrower conclusion:
Gross short interest cannot automatically be interpreted as directional bearish capital.
The exact division between directional exposure and structural hedging remains unavailable.
IC-VMSI™ therefore makes neither assumption.
It does not classify the entire short position as institutional distribution.
It does not dismiss it as harmless hedging.
Gross positioning is observable. Capital intent requires decomposition.
Why the Score Is 81.7
The 81.7 score reflects the convergence of several independently observable capital forces:
Broad institutional accumulation.
Deep institutional ownership.
Strategic NVIDIA capital.
Benchmark-linked capital.
The score is constrained by equally identifiable uncertainty.
Gross short positioning remains substantial.
Its directional meaning remains conflicted.
Exact arbitrage decomposition is unavailable.
And complete September-quarter institutional reporting has not matured.
ADF™ therefore does not increase the score simply because structural hedging is plausible.
Doing so would replace evidence with inference.
Instead, ADF™ prevents the opposite error: automatically treating every short share as directional institutional distribution.
The score remains 81.7.
Signal Integrity
| Evidence | Status | IC-VMSI™ Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Broad Q2 institutional accumulation | Confirmed | Strong positive capital-force evidence |
| Institutional ownership depth | Confirmed | Capital broadly embedded |
| NVIDIA strategic ownership | Confirmed | Independent strategic-capital layer |
| Nasdaq-100 inclusion | Confirmed | Benchmark-linked infrastructure established |
| Q3 institutional persistence | Provisional | Complete reporting remains unavailable |
| Gross short positioning | Confirmed | Large absolute position remains |
| Directional meaning of short interest | Conflicted | Convertible structure affects interpretation |
| Exact arbitrage decomposition | Unavailable | Missing evidence is not replaced by assumption |
What Price Alone Did Not Reveal
NBIS price appreciation is not the basis of the 81.7 IC-VMSI™ score.
The higher-information structure lies beneath price:
Institutional ownership expanded materially.
Strategic capital became embedded.
Benchmark-linked capital was established.
And the largest apparent contradiction—short interest—cannot be interpreted cleanly without accounting for the company’s convertible-capital structure.
The important relationship is therefore not price strength.
It is the simultaneous presence of institutional accumulation, strategic ownership and benchmark-linked capital despite substantial counter-positioning.
Price can reflect that structure.
Price cannot establish it.
Price measures movement. IC-VMSI™ measures capital force.
The Unresolved Test
The unresolved question is no longer whether institutions established meaningful NBIS exposure.
The available evidence shows that they did.
The question is whether that capital persists after substantial appreciation.
Complete September-quarter Form 13F reporting is not yet available.
IC-VMSI™ therefore will not infer continued institutional accumulation from price strength, momentum or trading volume. Pasted text
If multiple independent institutions continued increasing exposure through the September quarter, evidence of capital inertia strengthens.
If broad institutional distribution emerges instead, the institutional state must weaken.
Falsification Condition
The Strong Positive Capital Force state requires reassessment if Q3 filings establish:
broad institutional distribution
+ deterioration in ownership breadth
+ meaningful reductions across multiple independent holders
A reduction by one institution is insufficient.
The state changes only if the evidence converges.
Final Institutional Assessment
IC-VMSI™ — NBIS
81.7 / 100
Institutional State: Strong Positive Capital Force
Nebius’s institutional structure is defined by convergence rather than any single shareholder or financing event:
Broad institutional ownership
+ Strategic capital
+ Benchmark-linked capital
The principal contradiction remains equally clear.
Large short interest is real.
Its economic meaning, however, is partially obscured by a substantial convertible-capital structure capable of generating non-directional hedge activity.
IC-VMSI™ therefore preserves the contradiction without automatically misclassifying it as directional institutional distribution.
Institutional capital is strongly embedded in NBIS. The next test is persistence—not initial sponsorship.
About IC-VMSI™
IC-VMSI™ is VICA Research’s institutional capital-force framework.
It measures observable institutional deployment through ownership, allocation, portfolio positioning and benchmark-linked investment behavior.
Price appreciation, momentum, trading volume and price-driven changes in assets under management do not independently establish institutional capital deployment.
The Arbitrage Decomposition Factor™ (ADF™) evaluates whether observable positioning may contain non-directional components associated with convertible arbitrage, derivatives hedging, market making, benchmark implementation or other structural mechanisms.
Underlying model construction and weighting remain proprietary to VICA Research.
